Steve Jobs Still Involved, Working on Tablet?

The Wall Street Journal reports that Steve Jobs is actively involved in running Apple from home and that he is expected back in June.

People inside the company, business partners and others who are familiar with the situation say life at the Cupertino, Calif., company remains much the same as it did before. Those at other corporations who deal with the company also say their interactions with Apple haven't changed. Mr. Cook, who had already been handling most of Apple's day-to-day operations, has kept tight control over the company, say business partners and those inside Apple.

The WSJ also suggests that Jobs is working on a new device smaller than the MacBook Air and bigger then the iPhone.

Apple co-founder Mr. Jobs, who is considered the company's creative leader, is also involved in the development of future projects, they say. People privy to the company's strategy say Apple is working on new iPhone models and a portable device that is smaller than its current laptop computers but bigger than the iPhone or iPod Touch.

Apple spokesman Steve Dowling is quoted as saying "Steve continues to look forward to returning to Apple at the end of June."

More than three months into a medical leave from Apple Inc., Chief Executive Steve Jobs remains closely involved in key aspects of running the company, say people familiar with the matter.

Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook runs the day-to-day operations at Apple, these people say. But Mr. Jobs has continued to work on the company's most important strategies and products from home, they say. He regularly reviews products and product plans, and was particularly involved in the user interface of the new iPhone operating system that Apple unveiled last month, these people say.

Apple's New iPhone to Have Video Camera, Take Higher Resolution Photos & Use Multi-Core Processors?

We had reported couple of days back that an interesting screenshot from iPhone Firmware 3.0 beta suggests that video recording capabilities could arrive in the next generation iPhone.

AppleInsider is also confirming this speculation. They are claiming that as per their source who's proven extremely reliable with Apple related news has informed them that Apple will be introducing video recording capabilities in their next generation iPhone.

As per AppleInsider's source support for video recording will be possible using the "upgraded rear-facing camera".

Their source has also confirmed that along with video recording capabilities; users will also be able to take photos at higher resolution.

And they are also claiming that the next generation iPhone will come with significantly improved hardware to improve the gaming experience on the iPhone thus indicating that it could use multi-core processors as we had reported couple of months back.

AppleInsider's source is probably right about the video capabilities as we have already seen a screenshot labeled "Publish Video" in iPhone firmware 3.0 beta. If Apple is planning to introduce video upload capabilities then the rumor about the next generation iPhone supporting faster internet connectivity also makes sense.

AppleInsider believes that Apple will release a new iPhone app for the video recording and upload feature:

Should Apple's video plans for the next-gen iPhone remain intact, it's believed the capability would see support through a new "Movies" iPhone app that would provide rudimentary editing support akin to the audio trimming capabilities of the company's upcoming Voice Memos iPhone application.

However, they are also speculating that the video feature will be available only on a high-end model based on the code references in iPhone firmware 3.0 beta to two new iPhone models.

This week's rumors have got me really excited about Apple's new iPhone. I can't wait for Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference 2009 in June (dates are yet to be confirmed); when it is speculated that Apple will announce their new iPhone or iPhones.

Will Android devices overtake iPhone in 2012?

According to analisters from “Informa Telecoms and Media” and Natasha Lomas from Silicon.com, “Android smartphone sales will outstrip iPhone sales by 2012 […] However the analyst believes Symbian’s switch to open source will help the Symbian Foundation maintain its leadership over Android, Linux and Microsoft over the next few years.”

In my opinion, to avoid to be overtaken Apple should continue in its innovation policy: I hope iPhone firmware 3.0 will be a breath of fresh air from this point of view!
